Wallet Download & Setup Guide

Before we get started, let’s break down what you can expect in this guide. We’ll take you through every step, from downloading the Pontem Wallet to creating your wallet, adding your custom coin, and sending your coins to your Pontem Wallet. If you already have the Pontem Wallet and are looking to add a coin with a contract address, feel free to jump to step 3.

Step 1: Download the Pontem Wallet

  1. Visit the official Pontem Wallet website: https://pontem.network. (Or you can directly search it on your device’s store but make sure that you are checking the official wallet.)
  2. Look for the download link that corresponds to your device’s operating system (Windows, Mac, iOS or Android) and click on it to start the download. In this guide, we will focus on mobile devices.

Step 2: Create a New Wallet

  1. Launch the Pontem Wallet application.
  2. Click on the “Create New Wallet” or “Generate Wallet” option.
  3. You will be prompted to set a strong password for your wallet. Make sure it’s unique and secure. Confirm the password, you can also use fingerprint touch etc. according to your mobile device.
  4. The wallet will generate a 12-word recovery phrase. Save them to a secure place or write down these words on a piece of paper and store it in a safe place. Do not share this phrase with anyone.
  5. Confirm the recovery phrase by entering it in the provided fields.
  6. Your Pontem Wallet is now created. Make sure to keep your password and recovery phrase secure at all times.

Adding Coins to Your Wallet

Pontem is a wallet on the Aptos ($APT) chain, which means you’ll need a small amount of their APT coin in your wallet to add a custom contract. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to ensure you can smoothly add your favorite cryptocurrencies:

Adding Aptos APT

Step 3: Adding Aptos ($APT) to Your Pontem Wallet

  1. Start by purchasing APT from any exchange you prefer. It’s widely available on major exchanges like Binance and MEXC. Even 0.1 APT should suffice, but for convenience, consider adding more than that (maybe 1 APT) to your wallet to avoid future complications.
  2. After purchasing, initiate a withdrawal to your APT wallet address, which you can find by clicking “Receive” in the Pontem Wallet.

Step 4: Adding Cryptocurrency to Your Pontem Wallet

  1. Once you have a sufficient amount of APT in your wallet, navigate to the main dashboard of your Pontem Wallet.
  2. Locate and click on the “Add Token” option.
  3. You will be prompted to choose the cryptocurrency you want to add. Search the cryptocurrency you intend to store in your wallet.
  4. Confirm the addition of the cryptocurrency to your wallet.
Adding a Custom Coin

Adding a Custom Coin (Let’s use $PROPS as an example)

Propbase is currently not in the pre-list of Pontem Wallet (it will be added soon), that’s why we have to add it manually.

  1. Click on the “Add Token” or “Add Crypto” option (ensure you have some Aptos in the wallet).
  2. Choose the “Custom Coin” tab.
  3. Here, you will input your coin’s contract address. In this case, we’re using $PROPS, and the contract address is:

    0xe50684a338db732d8fb8a3ac71c4b8633878bd0193bca5de2ebc852a83b35099::propbase_coin::PROPS

  4. Copy and paste this address into the “Coin Contract Address” section, and the necessary information will be automatically populated.
  5. Click “Add Custom Coin” and sign it. A tiny amount of APT will be deducted, and you’re all set! You should now be able to see PROPS in your wallet.

Tip: Be sure to include the section with the letters “::propbase_coin::PROPS” after the contract address, as Pontem Wallet doesn’t support manual additions for the Coin Symbol and Decimal. This ensures a seamless addition of your custom coin.

Step 4: Sending Crypto to Your Pontem Wallet

Before you can send crypto to your Pontem Wallet, ensure that the respective coin has been added to your wallet. To obtain your wallet address, simply click on “Receive.” In most cases, the wallet address remains the same for all coins since Pontem primarily supports coins on the Aptos chain.

Now, let’s proceed:

  1. From your existing cryptocurrency wallet or exchange, initiate a withdrawal or send transaction.
  2. Enter the Pontem Wallet address obtained in the previous step as the destination address.
  3. Double-check the address for accuracy before confirming the transaction.
  4. Specify the amount of cryptocurrency you intend to send and provide any additional details as required by your current wallet or exchange.
  5. Confirm the transaction and patiently wait for it to be processed. While transaction times can vary based on the cryptocurrency network and associated fees, the Aptos chain was very fast in my transactions. In most cases, your coins should arrive within minutes, if not seconds, after initiating the withdrawal request with the exchange.

Step 5: Verify the Transaction

Once the transaction is confirmed, take a moment to verify that your Pontem Wallet has successfully received the cryptocurrency.

Congratulations! You’ve now achieved the following milestones: created a Pontem Wallet, added cryptocurrency to it, and successfully sent crypto to your wallet. Don’t forget to safeguard your wallet password and recovery phrase securely, as these are your keys to preserving your digital assets.
